Perhaps this is your first summer in a new home, or maybe you’re just eager to better use the space you’ve been in for years. No matter what your situation is, there are many ways to make the most of your property this season. If you haven’t had time to get fully set up yet, here are some tips to carry you through the rest of the summer: Keep a Colorful YardColorful flowers and plants add a perfect summer touch. If you don’t consider yourself a gardener, or you don’t have great soil for planting, consider putting some planted pots around your yard. This can be an even easier way to brighten up your outdoor space. Be sure to check what kind of light certain plants prefer so that you can place your pots properly. Create ShadeThere’s no doubt that St. Louis summers are hot. While you might not be sitting outside at noon every day, it’s nice to have some shade when you do spend time outside. Strategically placed trees can offer some much-needed natural shade to give you a place to hide from the sun. If trees aren’t giving you the shade you need, an umbrella or two can do the trick. Creating some shady areas can make your yard much more appealing. When possible, it’s also a great way to keep certain parts of your home cool inside as well. Umbrellas or awnings that can keep the sun from heating up a room are great tools for staying cooler inside and out. Cool OffEspecially if you have kids, creating ways to cool off in the yard makes it much easier to enjoy this summer. This doesn’t mean you need a pool. Sprinklers and hoses, smaller splash pools, and other water toys can turn your backyard into the perfect place for your kids to play this summer. Dine OutsideMaybe you’d rather enjoy your yard or patio in the evening. What better what to do so than having dinner outside? Creating a space where your family or friends can come together for a meal is a great way to maximize your outdoor space. In addition to a table and chairs, consider some colorful pillows and decorative lighting options to make the space even more inviting. RelaxMake your yard an oasis for you this summer. This doesn’t need to mean a massive renovation. Finding a comfortable piece of outdoor furniture or a small hammock can make your yard the perfect retreat. Add a little table to hold a book and a beverage, and you’re good to go.
It’s easy to transform your St. Louis property into a great staycation this summer. Whether you’re looking for a space where you can relax, entertain, or play with the kids, with a bit of creativity, you can make your yard the perfect spot.
