The hustle and bustle of the holidays are over and the year 2020 has finally arrived. While it may be a bit chilly outside, the month of January is still a great time to get out and about in the city of St. Louis, as the holiday crowds have diminished and the tourist season hasn’t started yet. Let’s take a look at some of the events this month brings us.
Soulard Mardi Gras Typically most think of February as the kick off for Mardi Gras, but St. Louis celebrates for nearly two months in the lively neighborhood of Soulard. The first parade of the year is on January 6th, commemorating the decision to make St. Louis a part of the celebration. The family winter carnival will be held on January 11th and the annual Snowman Softball Tournament on January 18th and 19th. Come on out and join in the fun.
Clayton Restaurant Week The neighborhood of Clayton will be celebrating the culinary expertise of St. Louis during their annual restaurant week starting January 13th and ending January 19th. Twenty one restaurants will be participating offering three-course menus for $25 or $35 dollars. Some restaurants participating include Chophouse, 801 Fish, Barcelona, and Avenue. It’s a great way to explore the foodie scene of Clayton without breaking the bank.
The St. Louis Winter Whiskey Tasting Festival What better way to stay warm than by having a sip of whiskey or two? The St. Louis Winter Whiskey Festival will take place on January 25th with samples of all different types of whiskey. Ticket packages range from general admission, VIP to a premium package, all of which include tastings, light food fare, music and fun. Meet the makers and explore the world of whiskey.
Wolpertinger 2020 Whiskey not your thing? How about a delicious craft brew? The Urban Chestnut Brewing Company will be hosting over 45 breweries from the St. Louis area on January 26th, providing you with tastings of their unique and experimental brews. Choose from a general admission ticket, which includes a festival glass and unlimited tastings, or a VIP ticket which also includes a pizza buffet and meet and greets with the brewers. There will be live music for your entertainment and delicious food for purchase.
The Alton Visitors Center Want to get back into nature in this cold season? January is the perfect time to spot bald eagles along the banks of the Mississippi River in Alton and Grafton. Take a hike on the Great River Road and observe these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, or stop in to The Alton Visitors Center for one of their events which include “Eagle Meet and Greets” and the Audubon Eagle Ice Festival.
The St. Louis Auto Show The America’s Center and the Edward Jones Dome is hosting the annual St. Louis Auto Show starting January 23rd through January 26th. Not only will you be able to check out the newest cars, trucks, and SUVs of 2020, but you can participate in any of the fun activities available for the whole family. Dare to take a ride on the indoor zip line, take a turn on the ultimate bungee trampoline, reach new heights on the rock climbing wall, or try your hand at the many games they have onsite.
Just because it’s still winter doesn’t mean that January isn’t full of plenty of fun events. Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and a fun and event filled 2020!
